Firewise Tarp Requirement

The Board approved amending our Rules and Regulations to include language requiring that all firewood kept on exclusive use private decks must be completely covered with a brown fire-retardant tarp with a California State Fire Marshal’s stamp of approval or with a tarp that meets NFPA code 701.  In an effort to save money with a bulk order, I am asking homeowners that currently have firewood stored on their decks if they would be interested in taking part in a bulk purchase order.  The cost of the tarps would be roughly $100/each.  We will have an exact cost once we know how many tarps we are ordering.

Here are the specifications:

  • 10'x10' Flame Retardant 13 oz Vinyl Tarp with grommets

  • 100% Waterproof

  • 13 oz Vinyl Laminate Polyester

  • UL-214 Classified, ASTM-E-84, NFPA-701, MVSS-302

  • Fire Retardant; Class A Flame Standard

  • Meets California State Fire Marshal requirements

  • Tear and abrasion-resistant

  • Heat-sealed seams

  • Rust-resistant grommets every 24 inches on all sides and corners

  • Industry Standard Cut Size. The Finished Size is about 6 inches or 3-5% shorter after the edges are folded and hemmed.

Alternatively, you may purchase your own brown fire retardant tarp or choose to not store firewood on your decks. We need to be in compliance by September 15th.

If you are interested in participating in a group purchase order, please fill out the registration form by clicking on the following link. Tarp Form

Please respond by Friday Aug 30th so we can purchase these and be in compliance with the Firewise Program to keep Tahoe and Kingswood Village safe.

Third, there are a few owners who have already purchased fire retardant tarps that are not brown in color.  If you happen to be one of those owners, the Board deliberated approving an exception to our rules requiring that all tarps be brown in color.  The Board concluded that to ensure consistency throughout the property, owners with firewood covered with retardant tarps that are not brown will need to place a non fire retardant brown tarp over the covered wood.  This does not need to be done immediately, but should be done by the end of September.  If you need more time, just let me know.
